GOING BACHARACH…The songs of an icon….

When Debi and I received an invitation to the opening night of GOING BACHARACH; THE SONGS OF AN ICON at Chicago’s Apollo Theatre, we didn’t hesitate for a moment. And from the very first note to the last, we were absolutely transported.

Created by Will Freinwald, Adrian Galante, and Jack Lewin, and directed by Tony Award winner David Zippel, this musical revue is a love letter to one of popular music’s most beloved composers. From “Alfie” to “What the World Needs Now” to “I Say a Little Prayer” the songs feel as fresh and emotionally alive as ever – and in the hands of this extraordinary cast, they soar.

At the heart of the show is Adrian Galante, who serves as both music director and performer. As a pianist, he is simply fabulous – his playing is at once technically dazzling and deeply soulful, the kind that makes you lean forward in your seat. Joining him onstage are Hillary Kole, John Pagano – who brings a special authenticity having performed with Bacharach himself – and the remarkable Ta-Tynisa Wilson, whose voice stopped the room.

The production originated Off-Broadway at New York’s Marjorie S. Dean Little Theatre, where it was celebrated as “musically dazzling” and “Warmly nostalgic.” Chicago audiences are lucky to have it, and the intimate Apollo Theatre is the perfect setting – close enough to feel every note.

If you love great songs, great voices, and a magnificent piano, don’t miss this one. It runs through May 17.
